Mount
Merrion moderne
A planned community, in the then outer suburbs of Dublin, with mostly
conventional houses, some with an arts and crafts touches and a few houses in
the international style, Mount Merrion Park in
Stillorgan was developed in the period just before and just after the second
world war.
Most of the pre war houses were designed by Rupert Jones, usually with arts and crafts touches rather than deco styling.
An amazing selling point promoted by the builders was that you
could get home for lunch on a 3d bus ride. (Try that now! ) This
is one of the larger houses with moderne touches. Since this photo was taken an extension has been added to this house.
