Jim Porter

Jim Porter is a well-published freelance writer located in central Florida. With over 300 published articles and many photos to his credit, his award-winning work has appeared in BassMaster, Bassin', Bass'N Gal, State Game and Fish publications, many cyberspace sites and numerous others. On the water some 150-200 days a year, Jim writes from factual experience, not hearsay.

In years past, Jim was the host of the 'Alabama Sportsman' on ABC-TV. He was the co-founder of the Military Bass Anglers Association (MBAA), second only to B.A.S.S in years of active organized fishing. He specializes in Southern freshwater fishing, but has been known to hair-lip a trout or two. Jim lives very near Florida's famous Farm 13/Stick Marsh bass fishery and tests fishing products using that fishery as the test bed. "Being lucky", says Jim, 'our boat releases over 4000 bass a year." In his 12 years in Florida, he has released more than 40 bass over 10 pounds on artificial lures. On 20 May 99, he set the Farm 13/Stick Marsh record for artificial lures with a 15 lb. 3 oz. giant. "The right place at the right time", Jim confided.

Jim subscribes to the philosophy that 'fish are dumb as rocks' and 'will always bite, if found'.
He says there are 4 'Prime Directives' regarding fishing:

1) CATCHING fish is EASY; FINDING them is the hard part
2) Dry lures catch darn FEW fish
3) The harder you fishes, seem how the 'luckier' you gets
4) Mamma always said 'BE SAFE'

Jim will field questions & comments as time allows at jporter@palmnet.net.
