Bomb video found at Central Java hideout

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The National Police discovered a digital video recording containing bomb-making instructions in last Saturday's raid on a terrorist hideout in Wonosobo, Central Java.

"The video contains assembly instructions for different types of bombs, starting from low impact types to the high impact one we found Sunday," National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said Tuesday.

The recording was stored on a desktop computer. Investigators also are examining other materials found on the computer.

Police killed two terror suspects -- Abdul Hadi and Jabir -- and captured two others, Mustaghfirin and Solahuddin, during Saturday's raid.

They also confiscated two firearms, several laptops, several bags, a detonator, stacks of documents and nine cellular phone cards from various vendors.

Police also found a bomb inside a backpack -- similar to that used in last October's terror attacks in Bali -- in a raid on a home Sunday in Temanggung, Central Java. Police acted on information provided by Mustaghfirin and Solahuddin.

Counterterrorism officers had been convinced that Asia's most wanted terrorist, Noordin M Top, who is believed to be responsible for a string of terror attacks here, was one of the occupants of the house in Wonosobo.

"Our first clue was when we found a person who was sent by the occupants of the house to buy a newspaper," Anton said. "The investigators had a hunch that it was Noordin who sent him.

"After considerable surveillance, the squad was convinced that Noordin was at the location, but apparently he was not."

But he denied claims that Noordin was in the home and able to avoid capture during the raid. "He just wasn't there," he said.

Police intensified security in the province after the raid and believe Noordin is in the area.

"We suspect that Noordin is now on the run together with another person," Anton said.

"We cannot mention his name right now. The person is probably the one who lived at the house where we discovered the active bomb."

Police are conducting DNA tests to verify the identities of Abdul Hadi and Jabir.

The police autopsy report states Jabir died from bullet wounds to his head and chest. No information has been disclosed about Abdul's autopsy.

Jabir's family identified his body during the autopsy at an Army hospital in Semarang.

"Jabir's family requested that they be allowed to claim his body and bury him in their village, but we cannot approve that because we are still awaiting the DNA test results," Anton said.(04)
