Police detain terror suspect
JAKARTA: The National Police said Wednesday they had detained a man suspected
to be an accomplice of key terror suspect Noordin M. Top.
"The counterterror squad has detained the person, identified as 'BD', following
information from the Malaysian police in previous investigations," National Police
spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said.
BD was captured Sunday at his house in Genuk, Semarang, in Central Java.
Police believed BD had first befriended Noordin during the suspect's stay in Malaysia,
Anton said.
"We will continue detaining the person only if there is enough evidence (to charge
him)," he said.
Anton said the arrest of BD had nothing to do with Saturday's police raid on a militant
hideout in Wonosobo, Central Java, where Noordin was thought to be seeking refuge.
Noordin was not found at the house. Police shot dead two men believed to be his
accomplices and seized two others alive, along with bomb making materials and
documents. (JP/04)
