Sailors race for national c'ships
AMBON: At least 164 sailors and officials are attending the national sailing
championships from Tuesday to Friday at Natsepa Beach in Central Maluku, on the
island of Ambon.
In addition to athletes from nine provinces across the country, sailors from Singapore
and the Netherlands are also taking part in the event. The championships feature
several events, including windsurfing, the marathon race and individual races.
"Four provinces failed to send teams even though they registered for the event," the
chairman of the Maluku chapter of the Indonesian Sailing Association, Arie Sahetapy,
said. He was referring to Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Lampung, North Sulawesi and
Papua. He did not provide a reason for their absence. --JP
