Noordin's five aides arrested in Palu: Report
PALU, Central Sulawesi (Antara): Police arrested five people, accused of being aides
of Noordin M. Top, who was claimed as the Southeast Asian number-one terror
leader, in the provincial capital of Palu, a report says.
The five people, who were arrested on Saturday evening, are identified as Aprianto
alias Irwan, Arman alias Haris, Nano, Abdul Muis, and Asrudin, Antara news agency
reported on Sunday.
Asrudin was the first person arrested by police officers from Detachment 88 -- the
anti-terror police unit. The other four were arrested based on the information from
Asrudin, who lives in Baru subdistrict in Palu.
A reliable source said that the four others were arrested at a house in Nalu subdistrict
also in Palu. "In the house, the police also seized two bullets, compact discs, and a
number of books on jihad," the source added.
The arrest was confirmed by Ahmad Djafar, head of neighborhood unit, where the
house is located.
"It (the arrest) occurred yesterday (Saturday) evening," he said, adding that the police
showed photographs of the four to residents before the event.
Meanwhile, Salma, Asrudin's wife, denied her husband was involved in a terrorist
network chaired by Noordin, who was a Malaysian national.
Noordin, one of Southeast Asia's most wanted terrorists, escaped when security
forces raided his suspected hideout last week in Central Java. Police arrested
Solahudin and Mustafirin, and fatally shot two men identified as Jabir and Abdul Hadi.
