1,096 houses for Poso
MANADO, North Sulawesi: The central government will authorize the Indonesian
Military (TNI), with the assistance of local residents, to build 1,096 houses for families
displaced by sectarian conflict in the Central Sulawesi town of Poso.
The plan was announced Wednesday by Social Services Minister Bachtiar
Chamsyah, who was accompanying Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare
Aburizal Bakrie, at the end of the People's Empowerment National Pre Congress in
Manado.
They will visit Palu and Poso on Thursday to monitor the construction process,
funding for which will be derived from the state budget.
"We don't want the program to be a failure, so I'll go to Palu and Poso to get first hand
information on the matter," he said. --JP
