Councillors involved in Tuban riot
SURABAYA, East Java: The police will question four Tuban regency councillors
allegedly involved in the April 29 Tuban riots.
The councillors to be questioned are Teguh Prabowo Gunawan, alias Go tjong Ping,
vice speaker of the Tuban legislature and a rival of the incumbent regent Haeny
Relawati of the Golkar Party; National Awakening Party (FKB) faction chairman
Miyadi; FKB member Yayuk Nurul Qomariani; and Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle (PDI-P) faction member Edi Sutikno.
"The four councillors involved in the Tuban riot will be examined by police," said East
Java provincial administration's head of legal affairs division, Indra Wiragana,in
Surabaya Tuesday.
Police have so far named 118 people as suspects, the testimonies of whom
implicated the four councillors as masterminds of the riot.
Police reports made available to reporters showed that Go Tjong Ping was allegedly
the protest's financier, although the amount of money involved was not stated. The
police have also confiscated six trucks owned by Go Tjong Ping, allegedly used to
transport the crowd.
When contacted by phone, Go Tjong Ping denied any involvement in the riot. --JP
