Please Pray for Three Indonesian Christians Who are set to be
Executed Tomorrow
The Current Situation:
3 men are to be executed in Indonesia. The Government of Indonesia, once again, has
failed to provide justice for its own citizens. Fabrianus Tibo, Domingus Da
Silva,Marinus Riwu are to face the Indonesian firing squad at midnight Thursday Sept
21 2006 (12pm U.S. CT, Thurs).
Voice your Protest Against this Injustice:
Please stand against the injustice by participating in our petition to the Indonesian
Government at - http://justiceforindonesia.org - the petition will be closed by 3pm
Wednesday, Sept 20, U.S. Central Time.
Brief Background Summary:
Poso is a district in the island of Central Sulawesi - Indonesia. Some Government
elites together with some military personnel and business elites started a bloody plot
of conflict in December 1998. The conflict was plotted so that it would become a
religious conflict between Muslims and Christians. The conflict went on for about 3
years, it was very bloody and created a lot of displaced people. In December 2001,
both communities along with the Indonesian authorities (led by Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono and Yusuf Kalla) signed the Malino peace treaty to stop the conflict. Yet
from 2002 until now, the region has been terrorized constantly and the crimes
committed have become very sadistic. For example, last year 3 Christian high school
girls were severely mutilated. None of the violations have been brought to justice.
Also, Poso has been internationally known as a place where an Al Qaida cell exists.
These three gentlemen, Fabrianus Tibo, Domingus Da Silva,Marinus Riwu, were
arrested in May, 2000 and were accused of being the leaders of the Christian militia
and even the master mind of the whole Poso conflict. These three gentlemen were in
a conflict zone at that time to rescue kids in the Catholic orphanage and evacuate
them together with the nuns and the priests. During that same time there were several
battles going on in different villages between Muslims and Christians. Lack of
commitment from the security forces to control the region, has allowed the two
communities to engage in unending battles and to be continually victimized. It has
also allowed the violence to continue unabated.
These 3 gentlemen were arrested unlawfully. There were many violations of court
procedure leading to an unfair trial. Intimidation and pressure on the streets by Muslim
mobs made the court give these 3 men the death sentence. Instead of moving the trial
to a different place in Indonesia, the court let itself be controlled by the mastermind of
the conflict and by extreme fundamentalist Muslims.
Please join us in action and in prayer on behalf of these three men.
