Raising of RMS Flags Nothing to be Worried About
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The National Police Chief Police General Sutanto has
said the raising of two flags of the South Maluku Republic (RMS, a separatist
movement quashed in the 1950s) on Monday (24/4) was nothing to be worried about.
The RMS flags, according to Susanto, were raised by irresponsible parties.
The National Police Chief went on to say that currently the police in Maluku were
investigating who was involved in the raising of the RMS flags waving.
"It’s under investigation by the police there," said Sutanto after seeing off President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the Middle East at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport,
yesterday.
Regarding the possibility of foreign NGOs being involved in the RMS anniversary,
Sutanto said that he had seen no sign of this.
