Ambon residents hand in firearms
AMBON, Maluku: Residents have handed over 17 firearms and 127 ammunitions to
the military in Ambon in the past two weeks, a military official said Thursday.
Pattimura Military Command spokesman Maj. Paiman said the firearms, including 16
handmade ones, were brought in to different posts. Earlier, residents submitted 25
handmade firearms, explosives and hundreds of ammunitions.
He said the move showed the people's desire for peace in the conflict-torn city. "With
less weapons among the people, security will continue to get better and development
can progress," Paiman said. -- JP
