Bomb blast sparks panic in E. Lombok
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: A bomb exploded at Labuhan Haji district in East
Lombok regency, Monday, causing panic among local residents, although there were
no casualties.
The blast took place in the middle of a rice paddy field, far from residential areas.
"The sound was so loud it caused the floors to shake," said Maskun, the owner of the
paddy.
A police bomb squad was immediately sent to the site to investigate the incident.
"The bomb was classified in the low explosive category, with black powder as its main
ingredient. We will send the bomb's remains to West Nusa Tenggara Police
headquarters to study the motives behind the explosion," First Insp. Lamiren of the
bomb squad said.
Residents said they were shocked by the explosion and that some had thought it was
an earthquake.
"As they thought there was a quake, many people rushed out of their houses in
panic," Inaq Samiah, a resident, said. -- JP
