Police to be withdrawn from Poso
JAKARTA (Antara): National Police chief Gen. Sutanto said Thursday he would soon
order to withdraw police officers tasked to help return security and order in the Central
Sulawesi's town hit by a sectarian conflict.
"Situation is improving. People's activity return (to normal). (Current) security system
is no longer needed," Sutanto was quoted by Antara news agency as saying after
attending a cabinet meeting.
Police sent some 100 police officers in the town after the recent gunbattles killing at
least 15 between police and people involved in a number of crimes in the town, which
was hit by religious conflicts late last years. (**)
