Police arrest 56 suspects in Poso riots
JAKARTA (Antara): Police have arrested 56 suspects, who were involved in violence in
Central Sulawesi's town of Poso following years of religious conflicts killing over 1,000
of people from both Muslims and Christians.
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said Tuesday that the
suspects were arrested during police raids between January and February.
According to Anton, the police are still hunting 14 other suspects, who were still at
large.
During nearly two-month raid, the police managed to disclose 46 crimes in Poso,
including bomb blasts, mutilations, robberies, shooting, illegal ownership of weapons
and explosive materials.
"The case occurred between 2003 and 2006," Anton was quoted by Antara news
agency as saying. (**)
