Police release 10 suspects in Poso
PALU (Antara): Police released on Sunday 10 out of 26 people detained following a
clash between police and armed civilians in Poso, Central Sulawesi, early last week.
The police released them because they were cooperative during interrogation and
were not the main actors behind the incident that dozens of people dead, Central
Sulawesi police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner M Kilat said.
These men however were requested to report to the police every Monday and
Thursday, he said.
He said these people were found to be mere followers and have been threatened to
participate in the clash by members of the group led by Basri, one of the suspects in
violent cases in Poso wanted by the police so far.
He said the family members of the people and their lawyers from the Moslem
Lawyers' Team had given a guarantee for their behavior.
He said the police still detained 16 others because there was strong evidence proving
that they had attacked the police, possessed and used guns, ammunition and
explosive materials or bombs and hid people wanted by the police. (***)
