Philippine bomb investigators seek Indonesian suspects
Authorities in the Philippines are working with Indonesian police to find those
responsible for two recent explosions in the southern Philippine city of Davao.
Our correspondent in Manila, Shirley Escalante, says Philippine President Gloria
Arroyo has directed the military and national police to closely work with the
international agency Interpol and Indonesian authorities in tracking down five
Indonesians suspected of being behind the bombings in Davao.
Philippine authorities have linked Jemaah Islamiyah, which is alleged to have
connections with the al-Qaeda terror network, to two big explosions which killed 38
people last week.
Reports say the Indonesian fugitives have been seen in guerilla training camps in
Mindanao Island.
Philippine police chief Hermogenes Ebdane says he has contacted the Indonesian
police to exchange intelligence information. He says the Indonesian police chief has
assured him of his cooperation.
President Arroyo also welcomed the arrest today of two Filipino suspects in the
Davao bomb blasts.
