INDONESIA: Religious leaders sound warning over strikes on
Iraq
Indonesia's Muslim leaders have rejected a call by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden
for a violent response to any U-S attack on Iraq. A recording believed to be the voice
of bin Laden has called on Muslims to defend Iraq against a U-S led war. Indonesia's
religious leaders have already warned that a war will be dangerous for the entire
Southeast Asian region, saying a US attack on Iraq could spark rioting in Indonesia
and cause Islamic extremisim to flourish. A delegation of Islamic and Christian
leaders visiting Australa has voiced fears the war could spark retaliatory attacks on
Indonesian Christians.
