Fugitive policeman held as a suspect in Indonesia bombing
A fugitive policeman is being held as a suspect in a bombing at Indonesia's national
police headquarters earlier this month.
The suspect was arrested on Friday night in the Bukit Duri area of South Jakarta.
A police spokesman said the man, who held the rank of captain, had deserted from
the national police force.
The blast on February 3 caused only one minor injury and little damage, but the
security breach severely embarrassed the police force, which has lately gained credit
for its handling of the Bali bombing.
The bomb in a bag went off outside a function hall inside the police compound in
South Jakarta.
It broke several windows, damaged the entrance and blew a big hole in the wooden
ceiling of the function hall lobby.
