FBI team arrives in Papua

JAKARTA (JP): A U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team arrived in Timika, Papua on Sunday afternoon in order to investigate last year's ambush that resulted in the death of two American teachers and an Indonesian.

The team of seven members was accompanied by an Indonesian guide,Antara reported. The FBI members were identified as Roger Tamberlin, Robert Deardorff, Bloes Tara, Barney Johnson, John Pattariri, Nancy Wong and Edward M.

On Monday morning the team is scheduled to visit Mimika police station. It was not clear whether the team planned to visit the scene of the killing or to meet witnesses.

The FBI is investigating the ambush, which occurred close to a mine operated by U.S.-based mining company PT Freeport Indonesia. Former deputy chief of Papua Police, Brig. Gen. Raziman Tarigan has alleged possible involvement of Kopassus (Indonesian Militaryspecial forces) in the incident.
