Strong quake jolts Manado and Ternate
JAKARTA (Agencies): A stong earthqake at 5.8 on the Richter scale shook parts of
eastern Indonesia on Monday, causing panic but no reported damage, agencies
reported.
The earthquake at 9:09 am (0209 GMT) was strongly felt in the North Sulawesi capital
of Manado and the North Maluku capital of Ternate, Budi of the meteorology
headquarters told Antara.
Its epicentre was 100 kilometers (62 miles) under the seabed.
Panicky workers and residents rushed out of buildings in Manado. An earthquake with
a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale can cause severe damage in populated areas.
