Statement By Philip T. Reeker, Deputy Spokesman
Indonesia: Attacks on Monitoring Offices
The United States deplores recent attacks on district offices of the Joint Security
Committee (JSC) implementing the Aceh ceasefire and threats against Security
Committee monitors. We call on the Government of Indonesia to fulfill its
responsibility to protect the monitors and safeguard the peace process. We urge the
Government of Indonesia to investigate the recent incidents and punish those
responsible.
We continue to support the peace process in Aceh. The Cessation of Hostilities
Agreement has succeeded in dramatically reducing violence in Aceh.
