Chaplains Column

I recently realized that with all the media bombardment of low carb products, the cycle of health conscious merchandizing is repeating for another generation. First there was the introduction of no calorie soft drinks, then came the low fat foods era. Now, instead of calories or fat grams, people are counting carbohydrates.

What people are really counting on, is getting in better shape, or losing weight. As noted in Ecclesiastes 1:9 –“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”

In general, it would be nice to be able to buy a drink, or take a pill to change your health, but instead of spending your money (which is what advertisers are counting on), invest a little more time and effort into improving yourself, in your own practical way.

Why buy a “low carb” soft drink? You have the option to drink something that is actually nutritious. No matter what they do to a soft drink, it’s still not good for your health.

Take a walk each day. Take the stairs (if you are able) instead of elevators. I have found that the people getting results from any diet or eating program, are the ones pursuing it in conjunction with physical activity.

Invest some time into a hobby or activity that will naturally enhance your physical health over time – the side affect is that this will also improve your peace of mind.

Community Connectivity

“DSL is not available in your area”, said the voice over the phone. I wanted high speed Internet, without having to budget for cable – then I found I could get cable Internet without having to subscribe to cable TV – I placed the link on my website at oocities.com/baychaplain.

You can sign up for the popular ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) through the Community Chaplain Foundation, and help us out while possible saving some money.

Community Spotlight

Norm Johnson of Shoreacres is not satisfied with particleboard furniture, so he makes his own. From cabinet to coffee tables, his craftsmanship is sturdier and much nicer looking than affordable store bought furniture.

I have seen him turn scrap wood (literally old 2x4’s) into works of art. Mr. Johnson’s end tables and armoire type cabinets are true keepsakes.
If you would like a quality made, solid wood keepsake of your own, contact the CCF and we will relay the message – It’s not too early to think about Christmas!
