More info on the Results Page. Jussie's report on the first Bayside victory in many a year An almost full strength Bayside team stormed up the ladder with a resounding win against Doncaster, Western Suburbs and Ivanhoe. It could be said that we even gave them a whoopin', but I won't. With the competition never in doubt after about the 4th event (that's my story), it was just a case of "how far". It has been many years since Bayside has won a round of State League and it is doubtful that it ever managed to scrape together 173 points in an evening! As it was, the scores finished like this: BAYSIDE 173; DONCASTER134; WESTERN SUBURBS 122; IVANHOE 82 The fair and reasonable man that I am, I will point out that Doncaster lost some points as a result of not supplying officials, but they were never near us anyway. I hate to get people's hopes up, but last night's result takes us from 8th to 6th on the ladder and we are just one point off third! The solid win also kicked our percentage along by three points...we couldn't make the finals? Could we? As usual, the field results were great for us with Cameron, Aaron and Nick Baltas (back from overseas) winning the throws, while Matt Brown came second in his Discus. Leon won the vault, Matt Woodruff came second in long and Shaun Pollard jumped 1.90 again in high, but this week he was the victim of the countback system and came 4th. The track was where we had great success, however. Stu and Alastair won their heats of the 400mh, whilst running invite, Brendan Cole ran a great first race for the season and will be a welcome face at future State League rounds. Stu doubled up in the 200m, as did Alastair. They were joined by Tim Matthews for his first run, and he ran a very solid race to win his heat. It was really a night where things fell into place when one considers that one of the other 200m heats was a blanket finish between five athletes as they crossed the track in about 21.4. Them's the breaks! The 800 was solid again for us and Tony, Neil and Glen showed that we can put together a pretty mean team. At this point, it is worth pointing out that Glen is not available for any more Thursday competitions due to umpiring commitments. Ta, Glen. Also check out the shortly to be released Frankston web page which Glen has put together. Dean Lane ran an absolute blinder in the 5000m, with a big PB of 14.30 (by my watch) whilst Marty came off the back of a couple of 150km weeks to run a PB himself in 14.33. Chris ran well again, after a week when he thought he might not run, finishing in 15.32. Both Marty and Dean are showing form at the right time, and I hope that Marty will continue his the form into the World Cross Country Trials and Dean can take his into the upcoming Japanese half marathon. Aaron Petersen ran a top 110mh hurdles, running 15.7 against his 16.4 at Geelong. For a junior going over the high hurdles, that is awesome. And to the relay... Brenno ran a solid 51.2, gave to Stu, 52.6, Glen went around in 50.6, all of which was interesting, since waiting for the baton was the team manager, straight out of his Vans, in borrowed spikes and no socks (green socks just aren't cool to run in) No warm up is always good preparation for a 400, and whilst I looked a damn sight better than the poor Ivanhoe bastard running second for them, it wasn't good enough to hold on to second. 3.29.2 was good enough for 7 points and it capped off a very enjoyable evening. Thanks to all who ran, jumped, threw or just helped out. Justin Results are here. |
