More info on the Results Page. Jussie's report on Round 1, 1999/2000 What, on paper looked like a long night, proved to be anything but as a very good team of sprinters and jumpers proved strong enough to win the night's competition against all odds. Things started to turn Bayside's way as soon as the first event started when Brendan and Stuart lined up with no opposition (not that anyone would have stopped them) and ran great quarter hurdles to start the season off. After excellent results at the schools champs, Brendan ran a PB of 53.98. In the javelin, Tom Farr was proving too good for the opposition and Dave McCaffrey was showing just how strong we are by throwing well as an invitation athlete. The 200s were a revelation for Bayside as Justin Lewis (fresh from a win at the Bacchus Marsh Gift), Bo Betts and Nfa Forster-Jones ran brilliantly for the first week of the season. Bo and Justin are first season athletes with us and their enthusiasm and willingness to have a run is great to see. The sprint hurdles only proved how strong teh men can be when Nfa and Aaron scared everyone away and hurdled very well. Nfa running a PB and Aaron not far behind. The 800 also looks like one of our strongest events and Tony Wilson showed just how well he is running by opening up a big lead in the strainght with Neil Brennan in tow. Tony hang on for a great first up win and I have a feeling Neil might have a win up his sleeve before the season is out. Andrew Jones, in his first State League outing gained a lot from the experience and will improve each run. Matt Woodruff drew the toughest field he will draw all season but jumped well, and the season holds a lot in store. While I was thoring crap in the discus, Chris Muirden and Andrew Reid were toughing it out over 13.5 laps. Andrew made a big leap from the 16:20 range to 16:01 and must be congratulated for his PB. Chris ran a PB of sorts when his 15:09 proved to be his best time for twelve or so years. Top running from both Malvern guys. The 4x400 was a must win event and despite Stu's concerns that his opponent had flats on (and spurred on by my "wolf in sheep's clothing" observation) the guys ran a super race and tied up the win for Round 1. We rock when we feel like it, don't we? Check the results page for the full details. Thanks to all who competed, it made all the phone calls and stuffing around very worthwhile. It is much appreciated Now for a plea. While I try to keep track of the nights events, I find it very difficult to compile a summary of the women's competition. Is anyone able to help??? Either e-mail us here or see me on the night. It would help enormously... Cheers, Justin
