Bayside's extremely talented distance star Marty Fedmowski recently travelled north to the Cross-Country titles, looking to secure a spot in the team for the upcoming World Cross Country Championships in Belfast. Marty finished 104th in the junior race in Marrakesh, Morocco last year. Here's his report on the weekend:

After arriving in Canberra (Australia's Capital Shit hole) on a sticky thirty degree day and having driven eight hours to get there I wasn't feeling too good. But after a bit of a rest and a stint at the casino we headed out to the A.I.S. to watch the Canberra Grand Prix meet. Having seen some very good performances such as Georgie Clarke's 2.03 and a whole lot of Kenyans I was pretty keen to run.

The race started at 9.00am which meant a 5.30am start. Feeling about as good as you could be after a 20 minute run at 5.40am we headed to the track, which was the same as for last year's and also the nationals. After watching the women's race where Keryn McCann dominated we were called to the starting line. After having a quick look at the field there was no real big names like Mona or Creighton or Evans but there was Troop and Mahari who is still apparently a junior (toss toss).

The pace was pretty quick from the start and after a 2.50 first kilometre I thought I might struggle to finish. After latching on to Craig Mottram I decided to sit on him for a while. With the 2km and 4km splits being 5.52 and 11.59 I was feeling good, so I thought I'd take the lead. Mottram couldn't hold on and I opened up a 60 metre lead, with a lap to go I got a stitch but held on to win by 15 seconds over Mottram.

I was the second junior if you count Mizan so I'm confident of being in the team and going to Ireland and doing a lot better than 104th. However with the team not being announced yet even though it's been over a week already I'm starting to wonder if there going to send a team? Who knows?
