FRANK RUSSELL TALBOT

Seventh Captain of the USS Indiana BB-58, 05 December 1945 to 20 July 1946

Frank Russell Talbot was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY on November 7, 1897. He attended public schools before entering the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD in July 1917. He was a member of the crew, later crew manager and played class basketball. He graduated from the Academy in June 3, 1921.

Summer 1918 Because of World War I, he served as a midshipman aboard the USS Maine operating in the Atlantic Fleet.

June 1921 Assigned to USS Pennsylvania, Flagship of division 7, Battle Squadron 3, Atlantic Fleet.

May 1926 Postgraduate School in Mechanical Engineering at Naval Academy. Continued studies at Columbia University, New York and received Master of Science degree in May 1928.

May 1928 to June 1931USS Oklahoma, Battleship Division 3, Battle Fleet.

July 1931 to May 1933 Planning Division of Industrial Department, Navy Yard, Puget Sound, WA.

May1933 to 13 August 1935 Executive Officer on USS Alden.

Aug 1935 to May 1938 Instructor in Marine Engineering at Naval Academy.

May 1938 to Mar 1941 Navigator of USS Northampton, Flagship of Cruiser Division 4, Scouting Force.

20 June 1942 Rank of Captain.

Mar 1941 to 9 July1943 Executive Department of Naval Academy .

12 Sept 1943 Commander of USS George Clymer, Flagship of Commander, Third Amphibious Force.

1 January 1944 to October 1944 Commander Transport Division 8

05 December 1945 Relieved Captain Francis Paxton Old and became the Seventh Captain of the Battleship USS Indiana BB-58

20 July 1946 Relieved as Captain of the USS Indiana by Commander Lester Robert Schulz, Acting Captain of the USS Indiana BB-58

20 July 1946 to Spring 1949 On the Staff of the Commanding General, Sixth Army, U.S. Army, attached to the Sixth Army Headquarters, Presidio, San Francisco, CA

Spring 1949 to 30 June 1951 Administrative Officer, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA

30 June 1951 Retired. Transferred to the Retired List of the Navy and was advanced to Rear Admiral on the basis of combat awards.

02 November 1980 Rear Admiral Frank Russell Talbot died at Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY
