This section of the site is for Uruguayan bands. We will explain the kind of music they make, their popularity and why we chose them. We are going to include a collection of links to their official websites and our opinion about them. This is what has turned out:
SÓRDROMO- This band, has four members, vocalist and guitarrist Rodrigo Gómez, guitarist Julio Berta, bassist Marcelo Gezzio, and Fernando Varela on drums. They make pop music, with electronic touches and great guitar effects. Their lyrics are often quite depressive and the main theme is love. Their biggest influences are American and British rock bands. Their official website, is a quite good one, however, it lacks originality.
LA VELA PUERCA- A typical reggae/ska/rock band with more than five members, Sebastián Teysera (vocalist), Sebastián Cebreiro (vocalist), Nicolás Lieutier (bass), Santiago Butler (guitars), Rafael Dibello (guitars), Carlos Quijano (sax), Lucas de Acevedo (drums) y Alejandro Picone (trumpet). It’s one of the loudest and popular bands (if not the most) in our country and you can hear them everywhere. They have the best Uruguayan website. It’s elaborate, interactive and you can listen to all the tracks.
NO TE VA GUSTAR- A great band with a mix of rock/reggae/salsa/pop songs. They combine Latin-American They combine Latin-American rythms with guitars and catchy melodies. Emiliano Brancciari: (guitars and voice), Mateo Moreno (bass and chorus), Pablo Abdala (drums), Gonzalo Castex: (percussion) Martín Gil (trompet and chorus), Denis Ramos (trombone), Mauricio Ortiz (tenor sax). A great complete website, with almost every album they have released, detailed biography and loads of photos.
ONCE TIROS- Strongly influenced by La Vela Puerca, they do the same kind of music. They have progressed and gained experience from record to record, taking their last album “Glamour y Violencia” to a quite good one. They are: Pablo Silvera (voice), Santiago Bolognini( guitars and voice) Bruno Andréu, (guitars and voice), Juan Lerena (bass), Andrés Bolognini (percussion), Ignacio Piñeyro, (tenor sax), Lucas Lessa (trumpet). Unfortunately, they haven’t developed a web site yet
BUENOS MUCHACHOS- One of the most interesting bands in the circuit, they are THE “indie” band. Influenced by late 80’s and early 90’s American indie bands like Pavement, Guided by voices, Yo la tengo , the entire Matador Records catalogue and solo artists like Tom Waits and Nick Cave, they have made records with a unique style. An excellentwebsite is available with animation, art, biography, music and downloads.
