Dungeons and Dragons

AD&DThis used to be how I spent one evening a week, for about a year actually. Then I moved and more or less lost contact with the others. Anyhue, I've only got the Players, DMs and World Builders guides. Oh, and I read someone elses Tome of Magic. AD&D They're quite good, as are a lot of others I've at least briefly borrowed from friends.

The thing with these books is they're absolutely useless to just read, you have to jump in and play. AD&DI still dont know half the rules and I had fun playing for ages. I'm being lazy and customising this list a lot less than the others, so what you see here is basically the search results for 'Dungeons and Dragons' if you type that in the amazon.com search box. Rather more than half of them are out of print. I'm hoping to get a bit more coherent comment up soon.

The three essential AD&D books:

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monstrous Manual
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons New Players Handbook
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Dungeon Master Guide
Pictures above.
To play you only need to have read the players guide, to run it you need a lot of practice as a player and all three books. There are some rather neat online resources too if you hunt for them.

Be aware, a great many of these are out of print or just plain useless. I list them all because I haven't followed each link to find which are what.

This would be the one currently borrowed from... um, er, someone I know... I rather like this one. Lots of useful little fiddly extra things. Actually that about sums up all the supplements. And they all make it easier to kill things. And one of them has a huge great list of different types of weapons, bigger than the standard list, that gives your character lots of.. um, character.. when you buy from there so you dont have a sword, you have a katana or a sabre (but preferably a katana if you can talk your DM into it). Trouble is it's colloquially known in our group as 'tons of guns' so I can't remember which of these it is, if it's even on this list :-)
