C J Cherryh

Downbelow_StationI own maybe a dozen books by this author, at least two of which I haven't read yet. I inherited a load from Dad when he was going to get rid of them. That leaves a lot of books that I dont yet own.

I like the Merchanter stuff, Cyteen was outstanding even for a series I really like, but I didn't like Rusalka quite as much (as I recall it gave me the creeps). I haven't tried much else of the non merchanter stuff. There's a depth and subtlety to how she carries through on her ideas. It's not just today's people in funny suits, it is always a whole, realised society filled with people that are shaped by the world they have grown up in. This is science fiction at it's best.

Once again I have been lazy with the editing in order to get some more shelves filled. I will tidy this up, probably quite soon. At the moment it is just the search results with the hardback versions of any doubles taken out. I always list the paperbacks if they exist, that being the version I would buy. Quite a lot of them have hardback versions still available. They are mostly in no particular order.

Downbelow Station

I love this book. I re-read this book regularly. By the way, station descriptions sound vaguely familiar to this B5 fan. Coincidence? Did someone decide blue sector was necessarily C&C? Did I miss an acknowledgement in the credits sometime? These and other mysteries... :-)

Merchanters_Luck

Merchanter's Luck

Love it, go read it.

Tripoint

This is a great one. I got it from the bookclub in hardback and I dont regret the expense one bit.

Heavy Time

Really great book. All the characters seemed real to me and real in their world.

Rimrunners

I love this one too. amazon.com says it is out of print, my advice is to hunt this one down.

Cyteen

Cyteen A truly outstanding book, it follows through on the psychological and sociological ramifications of new technologies in a way that makes it stand out from the general mass of SF. I don't know how much sense it makes if you read it alone, but I reckon you should read this book even if you don't bother with any of the others on this page. I reckon you wont stop with just this one if you try it.

Hellburner

The sequel to heavy time, I liked it.

Forty Thousand in Gehenna
C. J. Cherryh / Mass Market Paperback / Published 1997

This sort of follows on from Cyteen, taking up a plot mentioned in that. This is the world the azis make... I read it and I like it.

Finity's End
Hardcover / Published 1997

Haven't read this one, it's on my want list. Said list being nearly as long as some of these books.

The Faded Sun : Kutath
The Faded Sun : Shon'Jir
Faded Sun Kesrith

I think I have all three of these books in one edition. I have a really huge book called 'The Faded Sun Trilogy'. It is really great, two whole alien societies and humans from an alien perspective all fully realised.

If you get the idea I could sing the praises of this author endlessly you are quite right :-)

Here on in are the books I haven't read, some of which I don't even recognise the names of. Some are sitting on my shelf waiting for me, others are out of print apparently. Enjoy, I list them all because I dont know which ones to leave out.
Chanur's Venture
Chanur's Homecoming
Pride of Chanur

These are in a group cos they've all got the same person in the title. The only other thing I know about them is one of these is in the not read pile of inherited stuff.

Lois & Clark : A Superman Novel ~ Usually ships in 24 hours
C. J. Cherryh / Paperback / Published 1997

Lois_&_Clark This is officially cool. I didn't know about this until I did the amazon.com search. I certainly haven't read it, but the very idea that CJ Cherryh did a Lois & Clark book is cool. I would buy this if I had the money. I loved the series (certainly the hottest casting of any Superman thing I've seen, though Jimmy didnt look a lot like Jimmy). I think I'll do a page of Lois & Clark stuff when I've done all this stuff I have planned.
