When people think of vegetables and herb recipies, most will start to get hungry. At City Farm they have a vegetable recipie that you can try in your garden, but it's best if dont eat this!

Fly Catcher!

Wash several 1-2 L plastic containers.
Cut 1cm nicks for two sides of a triangle near the top of the bottle (above the proposed waterline).
Push cut points inwards (flys will be attrached to the contents and enter bottle, but not be able to escape).

Ingredients

Vegemite - 1 tsp
Water (boiled) -1 litre

Method

Mix teaspoon of Vegemite with small amount of hot water until disolved.
Stir in rest of boiled hot water. Pour into specially perferated plastic containers.
Hang container by wire or string from branch or stake in garden.
Container will attract and trap unwanted fruit fly.

This flycatcher is usable until liquid is evapourated. Check to make sure you are not catching destinctive hoverflys or bees (It could be you have cut the holes too big). Dispose of dead flys into garden bed or rubbish. This catcher when used with the right combination of herbs will promote better yields without the need for pesticides.
