Myrtle's German Chocolate Cake
- 1 bar German Chocolate Chocolate
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup butter, margarine or shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks, unbeaten
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 1/2 cups Cake Flour
- 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Instructions:
Melt chocolate in boiling water, Cool. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add chocolate and vanilla. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add flour alternately with buttermilk to egg mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into 3 - 8 or 9 inch lightly greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Cool.
