A hard-throwing left-handed pitcher who features a 90-mph fastball, slider and curveball, and a developing change-up....Has excellent command of his pitches.
2008: Placed on Myrtle Beach disabled list to begin season following off-season Tommy John elbow surgery....returned to the mound for rehab assignment with Gulf Coast League Braves 6/28....activated by Myrtle Beach 7/20....picked up win in 7/21 vs. Frederick....placed on the disabled list 7/30 with a shoulder injury, retroactive to 7/28.
2007: Assigned to Class A Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Carolina League)....made one appearance before being promoted to Class AA Mississippi Braves....picked up win in first Southern League start 4/9 vs. Huntsville....returned to Myrtle Beach 4/10, but then called up to Class AAA Richmond 4/14....returned again to Myrtle Beach and placed on disabled list (sore left elbow) 4/21....joined Gulf Coast League Braves 7/7 on rehab assignment....re-activated by Myrtle Beach 7/16....pitched twice in relief before returning to disabled list 7/23....did not pitch for the remainder of the season.
2006: Member of All-ACC Academic Baseball team....Struck out nine batters in seven innings while combining with Chris Hicks on shutout of Kennesaw State 2/18....selected in fourth round (130th pick overall) of June draft by the Atlanta Braves....Signed professional contract 6/21 ($235,000 bonus)....assigned to Danville Braves of Appalachian League....made professional debut with a scoreless inning of relief 7/3....awarded first professional win after working two scoreless innings in relief 7/9 at Kingsport....promoted to Class A Rome 7/11....selected as winner of the Jason Varitek Award for the 2006 College Player of the Year in Georgia by the Braves 400 Club (photo).
2005: Began season as No. 2 starter before moving to top spot in the rotation following Maryland series....combined with Brad Rulon on four-hit shutout of Virginia Tech 5/13....spent summer with league champion Orleans Cardinals of Cape Cod Baseball League....named to the 49th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll.
2004: Utilized as both a weeknight and Sunday starting pitcher while also seeing duty out of Tech bullpen....Turned in two effective starts vs. Georgia....Earned victory in first collegiate start 3/16 vs. Purdue....also notched wins against Auburn and North Carolina....chalked up wins against Georgia State and Maryland during week of May 17-23....Pitched for Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of Cape Cod League during summer.
High School: A four-year letter-winner for coach Robert Townsend at Fayette County High School....The 2003 Fayette County/Coweta County Pitcher of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution....First-team all-region and all-county in 2002 and 2003....Went 7-2 with a 1.81 ERA as a junior, and also hit .410 with 13 home runs and 38 RBI....Posted a 10-3 record as a senior and helped Fayette County advance to the state semifinals....Tossed a complete-game no-hitter and a six-inning no-hitter in 2003.
