Talented prospect with a big, strong frame and a good, live fastball....Has an assortment of off-speed pitches, and has very good command. 2008: Once again assigned to Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks (Carolina League) to begin regular season....got opening night assignment and struck nine while retiring 15 of 16 batters faced in 5.1 scoreless innings vs. Myrtle Beach 4/3....promoted to Class AA Northwest Arkansas 5/29....allowed only three singles while striking out 10 and walking none in complete game 3-0 victory over Arkansas 6/4....named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for June 2-8 as well as August 25-31....ranked as Kansas City's No. 10 prospect by Baseball America. 2007: Underwent surgery in late March for a back injury and began season on disabled list....made season debut by striking out two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 first inning 7/3 vs. AZL Athletics....did not allow an earned run or a walk in four outings before being promoted to Class A Burlington 7/21....picked up his first win of the season with five-inning stint in 3-2 victory over Dayton 8/12....worked eight no-hit innings before being removed due to pitch limit in following start 8/19 vs. Quad Cities....named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for 8/13 to 8/19....turned in 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings over three outings from 8/12 to 8/24 to finish-up his stint in Burlington....promoted to Class A Wilmington (Carolina League) 8/27....made Carolina League debut by striking out a career-best eight batters in six shutout innings 8/29 vs. Salem....following regular season, pitched for the West Oahu Canefires of the Hawaii Baseball League....ranked by Baseball America as the Royals' fourth-best prospect. 2006: Third-team pre-season All-America by Collegiate Baseball....bothered by shin splits for much of season requiring adjustments to his pitching mechanics....posted team-leading 11 victories including wins as a starter in ACC Tournament, NCAA Atlanta Regional and NCAA Super Regional....also led staff in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts....hit 18 batters with pitches during season to establish new Tech record....selected by Kansas City Royals in third round of June draft....made professional debut with Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League....earned first professional win 8/2 vs. Odgen....posted 3-0 record with 2.95 ERA over last seven outings of season.
2005: Second-team All-ACC selection after taking over spot in weekend rotation for sophomore season....went the distance on a six-hitter for first collegiate complete game to beat South Carolina in NCAA Atlanta Regional 6/4....allowed just one hit and an unearned run in seven innings of work in NCAA Super Regional pitching duel with Tennessee's Luke Hochevar 6/10....led Tech staff in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched....joined Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of Cape Cod League for summer....struck out 10 while going the distance on a five-hit shutout of Wareham Gatemen 7/31.
