Frequently Asked Questions
Question: 1. Hi, maybe you can help me. I have three 6" red eared sliders (2 F & 1M) the tank that I have now is getting too small (30x20x13) I'd like to upgrade the tank to 48x21x13. what type of filter or pump should I get?
Answer: When I was selecting my filter I checked the box on the filter to make sure that my tank wasn't too big for the filter. I have a 29 gallon tank and the filter said that it could handle 30 to 50 gallon tank. I rather have the filter been a little bit more powerful than not powerful enough. This is especially true when you have more than one turtle in your tank. One other thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the hoses from the filter go down far enough into the water so that you do no have to have your water level so high.
Question 2. Hi I see a filmy substance coming from their legs and front of the shell. Any ideas what to do about that? Thanks for all you input.
Answer: I am not sure what the
filmy substance could be. It does sound like it could be shell rot.
The dry form is often associated with a fungal infection and needs to be treated
with antifungal medications. The wet form is associated with bacteria and often
develops after an injury to the shell. If you are going to keep them I
suggest you take them to a vet.
