Response to ABC's Apparent Endorsement of Homosexuality

I received this from a friend and have subsequently sent a response to ABC. Pass it on if after reading it you feel it has merit.

Dear Webmaster,

I received the following article and subsequent response from ABC's Webmaster. While some Christians are not as quick to judge issues of concern as the sender from Arkansas was, we do take offense to the insensitivity of someone from your site. Could it be that ABC has no one monitoring e-mail responses?
The following was sent to ABC:

ABC is obsessed (or should I say abscessed) with the subject of homosexuality. I will no longer watch any of your attempts to convince the world that homosexuality is OK. THE PRACTICE can be a fairly good show but last night's program was so typical of your agenda. You picked the 'dufus' of the office to be the one who was against the idea of his mother being gay and made him look like a whiner because he had convictions. This type of mentality calls people like me a "gay basher." Read the first chapter of Romans (that's in the Bible) and see what the apostle Paul had to say about it... He and God and Jesus were all 'gay bashers.' What if she'd fallen in love with her cocker spaniel... is that an alternative lifestyle?(By the way, the Bible speaks against that, too.) Jim Neugent.

Here is ABC's reply from the ABC online Webmaster:

How about getting your nose out of the Bible (which is ONLY a book of stories
compiled by MANY different writers hundreds of years ago) and read the
Declaration of Independence (what our nation is built on) where it says "All Men are Created Equal"-and try treating them that way for a change! Or better yet, try thinking for yourself and stop using an archaic book of stories as your lame crutch for your existence. You are in the minority in this country and your boycott will not affect us or our freedom of expression.

This is my response:

May I remind the "Child" that wrote this response, (There are those who are well along in years that are children in understanding) that this country was founded on religious principles. Children and grown-ups alike pay tribute to "One nation, under God," and our money still has "In God We Trust" on it. Better yet, let me use part of the quote the ABC Webmaster used from the Declaration of Independence - "All men are created equal." This works from both ends of the spectrum. Since it is apparent the sender of this reply is a non-believer in God, that person has offended a large number, even if we are in the minority.

It is also apparent that the Webmaster has no knowledge of the entire content of the Declaration of Independence, If they did they would have seen it closes with these remarks - "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." That protection, Webmaster, gives me the privilege to also speak my mind, even if it differs from yours. A "sound mind" would have simply replied to the article with words such as, "We appreciate your opinion and recognize your freedom of expression." But then "bigots" never really think through remarks made, regardless of what side of the debate they are on, do they?
If the person who wrote this response worked for any company other than a news service they would have been reprimanded for their insensitivity and their flippant attitude toward a Book that has prevailed for centuries, in spite of those who would try to make it "a book of stories," it is THE WORD OF GOD. It is a book that the Webmaster has apparently not had the courage to read, for fear it may change their life. Or could it be the webmaster's response came from their "higher authority," the god of this world.

FROM ABC

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This happened about two years ago, and we expressed regret at the time that a representative of ABC inappropriately expressed his personal views in response to a viewer's comments. We also sincerely apologized for the disrespectful tone of that employee's answer. This person no longer works for the company.

We would take the same position today and hope our position has been clear. We take our viewers' feedback very seriously and expect all of our employees to do the same. Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
