This is the Orlanthi Naminator a bit of fun for people who want to
come up with an Orlanthi name for their character or NPC but don't want to try and make
one up. The source of the names listed here are the list
of names from KODP (indicated by an asterisk beside the name) and the list of Norse
baby names found on the Baby Zone web site.
Caveat : If you don't like using Norse names for
Orlanthi...don't, stick to KODP or some other source. If you're a Norse scholar and
you don't like some of the so-called Norse names listed feel free to dislike them all you
want. Frankly I find some of them questionable myself but what the hey.
How to Use the Naminator
1) Roll a die eight for a male or a die four for female.
2) Roll the appropriate die for that column.
3) Repeat for last name adding "son" or
"daughter" to the end of the name. For a bit of a change use a masculine
name for a woman's last name and vice versa. Maybe that parent was more important.
The beauty of the Naminator is that it is low tech. Feel free
to print off these pages and use them on the fly in your campaign.
The Epithetisizer
The Epithetisizer is your source
of epithets or bynames (again drawn primarily from Norse sources, those that appear in
King of Sartar are marked with an asterisk). I've gathered some Norse bynames here,
some are so bizarre that I haven't included them. The source of these names is the
following page http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~sfriedemann/names/vikbynames.htm
by Sara L. Friedemann. Some names are appended to the front of your name (those with
the hyphen after them, actually any of them could be done that way), while others are
added to the end of the name as So an so the whatever. There are three lists of male
names and one short one of female names though if your character is a female warrior
there's no reason why they couldn't use many of male ones.
You can either roll 1D3 to make your choice and then the appropriate
die depending on column or just choose.
