Class of 1959
Logansport High School
Logansport, Indiana

Marilyn L. Dodrill Shannon
August 13, 1941 - March 29, 1998

When we recall all of the victorious athletic teams of the Class of ’59, we remember Marilyn at the Berry Bowl and at LHS Stadium leading cheers to victory.  Marilyn combined the grace of a fine athlete with extraordinary social acumen and a sincere concern for others.  It follows, then, that she was one of our respected leaders and one of the most active of our classmates.

We remember her at LHS as President of the Girls’ Athletic Association (GAA), a member of Student Council, Inter-Club Council, LHS Senate, Music Club and FTA Club.  Her musical talent was displayed as drummer in the Band, Swing Band, and Orchestra, and as a member of the Choir.  Her classmates’ respect for her was demonstrated when she was elected a class officer during both our sophomore and junior years.

Marilyn married classmate Pat Shannon and they had four sons – Patrick, Timothy, Thomas and Michael and a grandson, Robert.

She was a caring nurturing Mother and her dedication to others did not stop with family.  She was a role model for us all in her tireless work for family, friends, her church and community.  She was active in All Saints Catholic Church as Director of Religious Education and as a member of the Parish Council.  She was active in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, the Knights of Columbus Round Table and she served as Chairperson of Logansport’s Iron Horse Festival.  We also remember Marilyn was being instrumental in organizing and presenting many of our class reunions.

After a long battle with cancer, Marilyn Dodrill Shannon passed away on March 29, 1998.  May the memory of her dedication to family, friends, church and community serve as an example to all of us, and make our communities better places to live.
