Susan
Eagan Timmon's husband,
Donald Timmons, died unexpectedly
on December 1, 2005. The following information is from
the Lafayette Journal & Carrier Newspaper:
Frontier school mourns death of principal December 2, 2005
BROOKSTON
- Staff and students at Frontier Elementaryy School are mourning
the death of their principal. Don Timmons, 63, died unexpectedly
of an apparent heart attack early Thursday, his son, Tim Timmons,
said. Don Timmons had been Frontier's principal since 2000.
Previously, he served as principal of Frontier Middle School
for four years and Dayton Elementary for 18 years. Timmons,
of Battle Ground, Indiana, is survived by his wife Susan, two
sons, 4 grandchildren, his mother and a brother. Superintendent
Bernie Graiser informed the teachers and staff of Timmons' passing
before they went home. Extra staff and counselors were brought
to the elementary school. "Of course, everybody saw
him yesterday," Graiser said Thursday evening, "and
he had his usual smile on his face. It's quite a shock to
everyone."
Fifth-grade teacher Cretia Jensen said the news was "pretty
overwhelming for the staff." Timmons was an organized efficient
problem-solver, she said. He also had a dry, sarcastic sense of
humor. "He had talked about retiring in a year or two so
we knew he was thinking about leaving us," people looked
at him (like) he wasn't really like a principal. Some people
saw him like part of a family" Jensen had her students share
memories of Timmons. Most of the reflections involved the
personal one-on-one time he devoted to them.
Parent Deb Brenner, whose son is a fifth-grader, said she noticed
that some students were very upset and sobbing on their way home
Thursday. "Our sympathies certainly go to his family,"
she said. "He was a great guy. He was there 110
percent for the kids." Timmons was very dedicated to
his work, always interested in developing new ideas and finding
ways to fund new initiatives, Graser said. "Students
came number one in his mind." he said. "Some might think
he came to Frontier to retire, but he was a very active, energetic
principal looking for new ideas... He's just very much a stabilizing
force within the school itself. The kids and the staff just
loved him."
Timmons' favorite projects were the school library and an outdoor
natural habitat supported by grants he wrote, Graser said.
The principal was well-liked among staff and students, Graser
said. Graser said he will miss Timmons as a colleague. "He
was very much a great support to me, also. Being such a small
school corporation with such few administrators, he was the one
with experience that I could always sound things off of."
Brenner, who worked with Timmons through the parent -teacher organization,
said he was prompt about answering questions or concerns and able
to remain calm in the heat of the moment.
"He had a wonderful way of welcoming you into his office,"
she said. "He would sit next to you instead of across the
desk from you. He always made you feel assured that he would help
you with whatever you were struggling with... He had a quiet presence,
but it's going to be a big void."
Timmons was principal of several schools including Brookside Middle
School and Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida.

Wayne
Levy's wife,
Mary Jo, offers this most recent information about Wayne for us:
"Short of a miracle, Wayne won't be traveling away from home
any longer. His illness has
progressed rather rapidly in the past few months. Four neurologists
have all told me they believe
it to be caused by Pick's Disease - one of the 100+ causes of
frontal dementia.
After a recent nerve conduction test, they also now suspect he
has a form of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
He has had very rapid muscle loss and weighs only 150 pounds.
We meet with an ALS specialist at
Emory (Atlanta) in a few weeks to see what he thinks.
Please give Wayne's regards to the class of '61. We were able
to attend their 40th reunion
and everyone in the class (especially the reunion organizers,
Jim and Eddie)
were very, very kind and thoughtful. A great bunch of guys."
