1829/12/26 Ipswich. December 26

Since Friday night the City of Norwich has been in a state of greatest agitation in consequence of the turbulent proceedings of the operative weavers who have resisted all attempts at any reduction in their wages.

On Tuesday last , about half past 10 at night, a large number of persons entered the house of William Springall in St. Augustines, with the intention of destroying his looms; they had their faces covered with black capes and as Mr S. attempted to secure his property, he received a wound from a pistol in the abdomen from which it is feared he will not recover. A reward of 190£ has been offered for the discovery of the person who fired the pistol.
