Super Mark Carter
Not a great picture of Mark Carter. In fact he looks a bit scary doesn't he?
I can't believe that we bought Mark Carter for £6000. What the hell were Barnet thinking of?

Mark Carter, or Spike, was great. He had a fat arse and didn't look much like a footballer at all. Maybe that's why he did so well. Opposition goalies would wonder who that bloke was wandering round on the pitch and then would realise as they were picking the ball out of their net.

He had an eye for goal as good as any striker. It was a natural talent. Why he never made it in the 'big time' is a bit of a mystery, because he had a certain instinct. His speciality was depositing the ball between the goalposts of the opposition team. Sounds simple I know, but Ady Littlejohn obviously hasn't twigged it yet.

When he scored, he would run along the touchline with one finger extended. It was a sight that, thankfully, we were to see rather a lot over the course of his time with us.

He now plays for Radcliffe Boro at age 40. He played against us as a guest for Accrington Stanley in January and he will always be revered as a true hot-shot by Bury fans.
