Sir Stan Ternent

No manager has ever had so much impact as has Stan Ternent. Taking over the managerial reins when we were at the arse end of the football league and two and a half years later he left the club in the first division. I have no doubts that if he had stayed, we would be where Burnley are now. However he didn't and we aren't. It could be said that Stan was very much the man, and I mean the man.

Sir Stan was the only manager I have ever seen in the English leagues who smoked during a game, In fact I was often lead to wonder exactlly what it was he was smoking. When we beat Sheffield United in the Leauge Cup 4-2 in about 1995 Stan was asked by a journalist to comment on a superb Shakers performance and he said something like, 'Its a strange bird to catch, the Bombay Duck.' What was in those rollies Stan?
