Week 5 Scores

BFL Week 5, and more surprise!

(I hope everybody watched the Monday night game, ABC had the
'mike' on Keyshawn Johnson, who was shooting his mouth off
about Marvin Harrison catching screen passes in the first
half, and how he was so much better. Well, Keyshawn, the
Football Gods don't like crap like that, and I think by
the end of the night, we saw who was better. You might want
to try keeping your mouth shut, and doing it on the field.
Also, at the start of the game, John Madden is mouthing off
about how this Bucs defense is one of the 3 greatest ever in
the NFL, blah, blah, blah, well, you don't lose a game like
that, especially at home, and be called a great defense.
They are good, but they are not great.)

Let's get to it:

Meeks 188
Dawgs 139

Where else can you start? In the game between division leaders,
and unbeaten teams, The Meeks come out on top with huge points
on Monday night. It is only week 5, and I have run out of
superlatives to describe the points the Manning to Harrison
connection is putting up. The Meeks go into Monday night
needing lots of points, and the Indy Colts wake up late,
Peyton finishing with 356 passing yards, and 2 TDs of 37 and
28, with Mr. "I'm not George" Harrison on the receiving end of
those 2 TDs, and also catching 176 yards total. That got
Manning 52 BFL points, Harrison 41, and the Bucs DS even got
22. Portis had another big day, running in a 65 yard TD (and
damn near a 72 yard pass reception, too) for 40 points, and
that was enough. The Dawgs got 41 from David "I'm back" Boston,
with 181 receiving and TDs of 46 and 13 yards, Henry and
Williams ran for 23 and 10, respectively, McNabb threw in 20
and Elam kicked like a bucking Bronco, for another 17. The
Dawgs had Peerless Price on the bench and he scored 25, but it
wouldn't have mattered. Wow, has anybody else noticed these are
two good teams? The Meeks are atop the Landry Division, at 4-0-1
now, and The Dawgs were the last unbeaten\untied team, but still
atop the Lombardi Division, at 4-1.

Pipsqueaks 108
Butchers 101

In another game decided on Monday night, Michael Pittman gets
the job done for the Pipsqueaks, running and catching for the
needed BFL points, scoring 15. Favre had a good day in Green
Bay for 30, McAllister ran for 18, John Hall kicks in another
25, and the Chiefs DS comes up with 15, Dante Hall returns
another punt 93 yards for a TD. The Butchers got 25 from
Harrington, Troy Brown pulled in 22, and Moe "Points" Williams
got 20, everybody on the roster scored, but needed one more TD
from somebody. The Pipsqueaks are now 2-3, and The Butchers
fall to 1-4.

Outlanders 113
Looney 89

In the third game this week decided on Monday night, Brad
Johnson has as big a night as Peyton, throwing for 52 BFL
points, on 318 yards, with 3 TDs of 78, 3, and 15 yards.
Alexander ran in another 19, and Olindo Mare finally found
the scoreboard, kicking in 18 more, the rest of the team
getting the job done. The Looney got huge production again
from the undefeated Minnesota Vikings DS, scoring 33 points
on 2 safety, 3 turnovers, and 2 sacks, but Jeff Blake could
only pitch in 19, Cundiff kicked for 13, but the rest of the
squad, while everybody scored, were in single digits. The
Outlanders are leading the Halas Division at 4-1 (and have
more wins than all of last season, though I still don't know
how they didn't win more last year), and the Looney are now
1-3-1.
(add on: Ed, Jimmy Smith is on the Looney's IR, he caught
for 137 yards in week 5)

Ferrets 122
Mules 92

The Ferrets get another win on the healthly legs of Fred
Taylor, 87 yards rushing, 77 receiving, including a 60 yard
TD reception, and a 1 yard TD run, for 41 BFL points. Trent
Green also throws in 24, and the newly acquired Dolphins DS
scores 22, on 4 turnovers, and a sack. The Mules got a big
game 43 points from Quincy "MD' Carter, running the NFL
leading offensive Cowboys, Kasay kicked in 11, but Charlie
Rogers hurt his shoulder early, scoring 6, and 3 running
backs could only come up with a combined 17 points. The
Ferrets are now 2-3, and The Mules are also at 2-3.

Manglers 133
Mustangs 78

The Manglers and Jeff Garcia got back on track, with 39
points, scoring 3 TDs, 2 pass, and 1 running. The Cowboys
DS had a big game against Arizona, also had 2 safetys (as
did Minnesota DS, that is odd), 2 ints, and 3 sacks. Holmes
could only get 9, but Rod Smith finally shows up, with 22,
throwing a 72 yard pass! to Portis (that was almost a TD),
and catching for 131 in Kansas City. The Mustangs got 118
yards rushing and 2 TDs from Ahman "Workhorse" Green, Akers
kicked in 17, the Redskins DS got 16, but Tommy Maddox had a
tough day for only 13, and too many other zeroes on the roster.
The Manglers move to 3-2, and The Mustangs are now 2-3.

Highlanders 105
Gizzards 39

The Highlanders get one in the win column, with Tom Brady
leading the way, 219 yards and a 58 yard TD pass, scoring 32.
Stephen Davis, runs, runs, runs 30 times, for 159 yards and a
TD, 25 BFL points (in my book, if he can keep from getting
hurt, early NFL MVP, right up there with Peyton, Carolina and
Indy still undefeated), Barber and Owens both get 16, and
Vanderjagt boots in 14 more. The Gizzards didn't show up for
this one, Randy Moss had another good game with 26 BFL points,
and Grammatica kicked in 10, but 4 of his players didn't even
make it onto the field this week due to injury and bye week
(Culpepper, E. James, Dillion, and the Jets DS). The Highlanders
and The Gizzards both now have a 2-3 record.

=====================================================

That is it. BFL MVP week 5 is the Peyton to Harrison connection
again, and I'm sure there is a lot of people in Tampa/St.
Petersburg, FLA (and Ron) that feel the same after Monday
night.
