Week 9 Scores
Scoring went low again in Week 9 of the 2003 BFL season
(except for a fewteams, get to that later). Playoff
positions in divisions tightened up, with only five weeks
to go in the regular season, things are heating up in the
Lombardi Divsion, where two teams now have five game
winning streaks.
Let's get to it:
Outlanders 104
Meeks 88
In the matchup of the week between two division leaders,
The Outlanders outlast The Meeks. Outlanders got 46 points
from QB Brad Johnson (even as Tampa Bay lost at home
again!) with 329 yards passing and TDs of 26 and 30,
Keyshawn pulled in 124 yards of that for 12, running backs
Alexander and A. Smith combined for 19, and everybody
scored. The Meeks Peyton (31) to Harrison (6) and Wayne (0)
combo beat the Dolphins in Miami with 37 combined, Portis
ran in 19, Josh Brown booted in another 19, but the Bucs DS
could only provide 7. The Meeks had Marshall Faulk in the
lineup, he didn't play, and Anthony Thomas on the bench,
who scored 26 (side note: ouch). The Outlanders are now 7-2
and The Meeks are 6-2-1.
Gizzards 116
Dawgs 73
The Gizzards move into sole possesion of second place in
the Landry Division this week with a win over The Dawgs.
Culpepper was back in form, 202 passing with TDs of 43 and
4, and ran in a TD from the 1, scoring 41, Moss pulled in
the 43 yard TD on the way to 22 points, Todd Heap got 17,
E. James (16) and Barlow (12) ran to combine for 28. The
Dawgs Hasselbeck threw in 26, a 2 RB lineup of Williams
(10) and Lewis (6) this week came up with only 16 from that
position, and the three receivers couldn't pick up slack
scoring a combined 12, Elam went out hurt after only 7. The
Gizzards are 4-5 and The Dawgs are 7-2.
Ferrets 126
Looney 38
The Ferrets, after starting 1-3, are on a 5 game winning
streak, investing TPs wisely. Griese threw for 30, running
backs Hambrick (26), Garner (13), Taylor (12) combined for
51 BFL points, the Dolphins DS put up 18, and D. Jackson
caught for another 16. The Looney got 13 from Tomlinson,
the Vikings DS, in a rare loss to Green Bay at home, with
only 7, receivers combined for 12, and too many zeroes on
the score card to stop the Flatulating. The Ferrets are 6-3,
a game behind in the Lombardi Divsion now, and The Looney
are 1-7-1.
Pipsqueaks 155
Mules 89
The Pipsqueaks also, after starting 1-3, are now on a 5
winning streak (and high scorer again this week, in the
BFL), they have just been lighting up the scoreboard
lately. Kerry Collins, the BFLs leading scorer this season
(can anybody tell me how the Giants aren't leading the weak
NFC East this year?), scores 44 with 303 yards passing (TDs
of 39, 6) and ran in a 2 point conversion, Holt has another
monster day with 11 receptions for 200 yards and a 41 yard
TD catch for 37, Toomer pulls in 127 yards and a 39 yard TD
for 25, Pittman runs for 16, the Duece plays for 12, that
is a lot of BFL points. The Mules Lions DS claw up Oakland
for 26 on 3 ints, 1 fumble, and 3 sacks, but also knock
Tuiasosopo out of the game after only 6 (Pennington on the
Mules bench, scores 50 (side note: ouch)), Shipp has another
great rushing day, 141 yards for 15, Steve Smith pulls in 19,
but no stopping the Pigskin's parade this week. The
Pipsqueaks are a game behind in the Lombardi, too, at 6-3,
and The Mules are 3-6.
Mustangs 154
Butchers 120
Another team that didn't have trouble scoring this week, The
Mustangs pass, run, catch, kick and play DS, and do it well,
to defeat The Butchers. Santana 'The Other' Moss scores 36
on 10 catches for 121 yards and TDs of 8,25,11, Ahman
"Workhorse" Green (in my book, easily NFL MVP at mid-season)
has 137 rushing, 52 receiving (5 yd TD) for 28, Maddox throws
27, Eagles DS 16, Akers kicks 15, Hilliard 13, L. Coles pulls
in 10, that is a very balanced score card, only Burress didn't
score in double figures, and he had 9. The Butchers have a
great scoring roster, too, 49ers DS put up 35 with 2 int,
1 fumble, 5 sacks and a 95 yard kickoff return for TD, Brooks
got 21, Duckett, Boldin, and Ward each score 13, everybody on
the starting roster scores good numbers, but just not as many
as The Mustangs. The Butchers, with 120 score, could have
beat a lot of teams in the BFL this week, and they played one
who scored more (side note: ouch). The Mustangs are now 3-6
and The Butchers are 2-7.
Highlanders 120
Manglers 54
The Highlanders don't just mangle The Manglers this week,
they put them in the grinder, more than doubling their
score (Scott, send me a few shots of good single malt, to
soothe the wounds). Another well balanced scoring lineup,
Kitna throws for 29, McCardell pulls in 19, Stephen Davis
runs hard for 18 points on 30 carries for 153 yards,
Vanderjaght bottlenoses(?) the Dolphins, beating them,
kicking for another 18 (3 FG of 50,44,25 and 2 PAT), Chambers
catches 16, and Tiki runs for 12. The Manglers get another TD
from Peter Warrick (13), but Arlen Harris comes up lean in SF
only scoring 3, Brees gets pulled from the game after only
scoring 4, but Buckhalter gets some work, scoring 9, on 23
rushes for 92 yards, still well short of The Highlanders
total. The Highlanders go to 5-4 and The Manglers are 3-6.
======================================
Can't give MVP of BFL Week 9 to Brad Johnson, because I
watched that game, and he looked terrible until the last
quarter. Chad Pennington, with 4 TDs and 50 BFL points,
but he was on the bench.
BFL Week 9 MVPs - Every team with balanced scoring -
Pipsqueaks, Mustangs, Ferrets, Butchers, Highlanders
