Disclaimer: I do not own Magic Kaito. I wish I did, but I don’t.
Lady
Deceiving mask of velvet and silk,
Tumbling black waves and blazing red eyes,
Rubious lips and all the right curves
In a figure so expertly carved out of ice.
Men will kneel before her splendor,
The Lady of the frozen fire.
Submit to her charms and to her will
Surrender to her your soul.
Oh sweet intoxication of the heart!
Hypnotized by the manifestation
Of Succubus, the lady demon,
That beguiles mortal men with her magick.
Bask in her glory, but be forewarned,
Like Actaeon to Artemis she is,
For she lives to hunt the noble hart
If it is not destroyed by its own hounds first.
So caution all who approach the Lady
And attempt to win her favour.
But greater still the danger to
Those who will deny her.
…See, this is how you tell if you’ve been reading far too much Shakespeare (NYAG, Helly!) and listening to too many Broadway musicals for your own good – when you cannot sleep at 1:30 in the morning and begin to think of Twelfth Night and the Phantom of the Opera.
Even worse is when you pull out the mini-pamphlet with all the lyrics on it for inspiration. So sue me, I’ve been sorely lacking in any.
Now, if you knew anything about MK at all, AT ALL, you’ll be able to tell this poem is about Akako. Well, kudos to you, you ought to be proud of yourself.
I like to think of Akako as a (as mentioned above in the poem) “Lady of the frozen fire”. She’s very cold and lady-like, like the Snow Queen, and yet blazing with a passion and fire underneath all that. And passion = love, right?
About Succubus, I think it’s Christian or Catholic or something of that sort, but Succubus is a female demon that captivates men and… ah… can we say… defiles them. Yeeeeah. The male counterpart is Incubus (like the band).
A bit of Greek myth found its way into this poem too. If you’re not familiar to the story of Actaeon and Artemis, I’ll tell you:
Actaeon was a hunter who one day spotting Artemis taking a bath. The poor, stupid guy didn’t have enough sense to look away and go somewhere else and kept oggling the naked goddess. Artemis found him staring, and turned him into a stag. Then, the hunter’s own hounds came along and ripped him apart. Served him right, gawking at nude women… *mutter mutter* Let that be a lesson to you guys out there! Anyways, Artemis is the goddess of the moon, children, animals and hunters. She herself was a hunter, and a damn good one too. Has a silver bow that kills instantly without any pain (her twin brother Apollo has one that kills while inflicting hurt beyond measure). She hunts stuff. Like deer. Another word for deer is the hart (some nice little tidbit I found in Twelfth Night. Could also be a pun of the word 'heart', for she does hunt them as well, ne? ^_~). So Actaeon got turned into a hart, and his own hounds killed him, symbolic of the guys who are in love with Akako. If she doesn’t use them first (they’re only tools to her), then they’ll be torn apart by their own desires. Or so methinks.
Therefore, as the last verse states, that it is dangerous to love her, and yet it is far more dangerous to deny her (and our Kaito-kun knows all too well). That should be self-explanatory.
So joys, I’ve finally written something about Akako. I’ve always wanted to. She’s freaky, but cool. In her own special little way. And she is going to be paired up with Saguru-head. Saguru-head is HERS! But this is a poem ABOUT Akako, and not necessarily about her lust for Kaito for once. It's more of from a bystander's POV *shrug* Yupyup
