About Our Meetings
We now meet on Wednesdays from ???? When we arrive at the meeting, we must go to a small room to do patrol work while the Sparks finish up their meeting. Patrol work includes collecting dues and sometimes a game or planning. For the last 15 minutes of the Spark meeting, we come out and do a joint Spark closing/Guide Opening. We do the standard horseshoe opening. All the leaders stand in a line at the front of the room and one of us calls out "Patrol leaders fall in" The patrol leaders then come forward and stand in their place. Then each patrol leader calls her patrol (ex - Canaries fall in) and then we proceed with the opening. While we are marching, we sing The Guiding Law song.
The Guiding Law song:
I
challenge myself with the Guiding law to be honest and true;
to be wise in the use of resources I have to respect myself and
others too to know and to use my gifts and skills to protect our
common world. Live with courage and strength and to share in the
joys of the Guiding sisterhood.
Then we help the Sparks out and go about our meeting. At the end of the meeting, for our closing, we sing Softly Falls and then Taps.
Softly Falls:
Softly
falls the light of day,
As our campfire fades away,
Silently each Guide should ask,
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honour bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to be prepared?
Taps:
Day
is Done
Gone the sun
From the lake
From the hills
From the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh
If we are at camp or some other guiding event and we are departing during the day, we sing daylight taps:
Daylight Taps
Thanks
and praise
For our days
'Neath the sun
'Neath the stars
'Neath the sky
As we go
This we know
God is nigh
