4th Sunday before Christmas - Advent

Dec 3 - Have a Heart Day. The first human heart was successfully transplanted by Dr. Christiaan Neethling Barnard, a South African surgeon, on December 3, 1967.

Dec 4 - Plant A Cherry Twig Day. It's Saint Barbara's Day! And that means it's a great day for us to pick a twig off a cherry tree and place it in water, indoors. It's also a great day to do the same with flowering forsythia, lilac, or any other growing thing that will have lovely blossoms once winter has passed.

Dec 5 - Walt Disney Day. The life of Walter Elias Disney began on this day in 1901; and although he died in 1966, his vision is still bringing a whole new world to gazillions of people, both tall and small.

Dec 6 - St. Nicholas Day. It is said that the good Nicholas went about with his sleigh, on which he had secreted gifts to bestow upon the needy - without their knowledge. By so doing, he reputedly saved some from a fate worse than death.

Dec 16 - Have A *Real* Tea Party Day. It's the anniversary of the "Boston Tea Party,"1773 .

Dec. 21or 22 - Winter Solstice. Less than 9 hours of daylight and more than 15 of night.

Dec 16 - Jan 6 - Mummering. Northern Newfoundland, homes are visited by neighbours in disguise. They sing, dance or play music but try to disguise their voices.
