May 1 - May Day. This is celebrated all around the world in many different ways. Some ways are, lay flowers at the door of your family and friends, dance around a May pole, choose a may queen, dress as Robin Hood and maid Marian, have a huge bonfire.

May 2 - Peter and the Wolf day. On this very day in 1936, Sergei Prokofiev's lovely tale for children, had its world premiere in Moscow.

May 15 - L. Frank Baum Day. Lyman Frank Baum - the man behind the Wizard of Oz - was born on May 15, 1856, in Chittennango, New York, near Syracuse.

May 19 - Circus Day. Ringling Brothers opened today 1884.

May 20 - Unforgettable Flights Day. Five years apart, but on May 20 each time, lone airplane pilots took off on what were to become historic flights. In 1927, Charles A. "Lucky" Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field in New York, bound for Paris, France. And in 1932, Amelia Earhart took off from Newfoundland, heading for Ireland. (This was five years before her ill-fated final flight.)
