Nov 22 - Billie Jean King Day. Tennis triple-crown winner Billie Jean Moffit was born on November 22, 1943 at Long Beach, California. The first female athlete to win over $100,000 prize money in a single season, she's been named Outstanding Female Athlete of the World," "Sportsperson of the Year," and "Female Athlete of the Year." In 1962, when she was 18, she upset the world's leading women's tennis player, Margaret Smith Court, at Wimbledon. A half dozen years later, she had won three Wimbledon championships and the United States title and was the world's top-ranked women's amateur. In 1973, she beat former men's tennis star Bobby Riggs in a well-publicized exhibition match.
