The PLHOMWL!

NEWS:

6/30/03: The 2003 Season of PLHOMWL has kicked off. After a short preseason, the lizards have taken up residence in Brian's new car purchased last year. The lizards were a bit nervous about the new arena, but are ready to go now!

Welcome to the PLHOMWL Homepage, your number #1 source for information about plastic lizards suction-cupped to Brian's windshield. Yes, folks, it's the Plastic Lizards Hanging On My Windshield League, or PLHOMWL. This all started with a trip over to Michigan from Madison to visit Kyle, Melanie, Steve, Dave, and others in Kalamazoo, and meeting Brian's Dad, Windy, Neil, and Steve (my brother) in Grand Rapids. Well, as luck would have it, we went to this new mall there called Grand Crossing or something like that. Anyway, it's not important. What's important is there was a restaurant in this mall called Kahunaville. Kinda Rain Forest Cafe-y, but with a massive arcade on the other side. Well, we played arcade games while waiting for our seat, and sure enough, we had enough tickets to buy a plastic lizard among other things. The result was one of our competitors, the pink lizard - affectionately dubbed Pinky by the plastic lizard stable owners.

Well, as luck would have it, we ended up back in that same mall in June of 2000, right before Kyle and Melanie's wedding. Sure enough, we ended up in Kahunaville for dinner and tasty beverages! Again, while waiting for a table, we played arcade games. Someone just regulated on one game, so we ended up with tons of tickets. Enough to buy three more plastic lizards (Collection Completed) as well as Dracula fangs for the all of the groomsmen at the wedding - see picture coming soon here! Anyway, Brian started putting the plastic lizards on his windshield, and naturally enough, competition began. Now, the PLHOMWL has officially begun, so place your bets now on who will stay stuck to Brian's windshield the longest. Official results will be kept from now on, and to aid in your wagering, a short synopsis of the lizard's unofficial history will be written next to his picture.

Points will be given to each lizard as follows: 4 points for 1st place, 3 for 2nd, etc. A summary of each race will follow this paragraph once there is a winner. Look for race updates at the top of the page every time you visit!

The PLHOMWL is back! IC Contributor Kyle Anderson has retrieved another blue lizard from an arcade in Lansing, MI. We're back and ready to go.

Without further ado, here's your competitors:

Blue Nickname: Smurf II Points: 19.5 Current Standing: 1st Smurf II is new to the PLHOMWL, although he kept the records of Smurf I. Holding on to the lead.	Yellow Nickname: Gila Points: 15.5 Current Standing: 3rd Gila is an improving lizard, never really contending until somewhat recently. Keep an eye on him, as he'll definitely win one soon!
Green Nickname: Gecko Points: 8 Current Standing: 4th Gecko is an unpredictable lizard. One time he'll be about to win, and the next, he'll plunge very quickly. He's definitely not safe money, but he could surprise... He's starting to look like the Detroit Tigers of the PLHOMWL - so far in last he might not care any more.	Pink Nickname: Pinky Points: 16 Current Standing: 2nd Pinky has the most windshield-hanging experience of any competitor. He's consistently doing well, but loses a lot of close ones that you think he'd hold out and win.

RACE #2: This race kicked off the 2002 PLHOMWL Season, and the first lizard to plunge was Green, he lasted about a week. Blue and Yellow both lost a suction cup after a few days, but were hanging on. Eventually, Yellow lost the battle and plunged. Then, a couple weeks later, Pink lost a suction cup. Then, in the hot sun of late June, Pink plunged as well, leaving Blue as the winner! Smurf II honored the roadkill memory of the original Smurf, and won his inaugural race.

RACE #3: The next race of the season was an interesting one from the start. Green and Yellow plunged two days in a row, in that order. That pitted Blue against Pink for the win. And Blue pulled it out again, he has a two race winning streak.

RACE #4: Next on the 2002 season was an very exciting match. This one started off with a huge upset. Just a couple days after the start of the race, Pink plunged first. Your PLHOMWL announcers were stunned upon returning to the car. Next, Green plunged a few days later. Both Blue and Yellow had lost a suction cup and were holding on tight for several days before Yellow finally bit it and Blue now has a 3-race winning streak.

RACE #5: First on tap in the 2003 season, after moving into the new windshield arena, is another battle to the finish. Pink took the plunge after a day, and was found lounging on the top of the rearview mirror. Green took the plunge on the way to work on 6/30. Blue hung by one cup for a couple days, but Yellow held strong for the win, ending Blue's winning streak.

RACE #6: More intrigue in the PLHOMWL, as the first tie in league hiss-tory is recorded. Green plunged in the hot early July afternoon sun. However, Yellow, Blue, and Pink held on for a couple days. However, at lunch on 7/3, both Blue and Yellow had taken the Nestea. The judges conferred and award Yellow and Blue 2.5 points each for tying for 2nd. Pink held on to win. The top three lizards are battling it out for top position.

Smurf has pulled off a few upsets while hanging only on one suction cup. He has much endurance but occasionally he'll falter early. He's a good bet to at least make it to the final two. Retired after the 1st race - replacement to be found...
