Robbie Williams makes Bond bid

Robbie Williams has his heart set on winning the role of his favourite screen idol, James Bond. The former Take That member has expressed his desire to take over as the next Bond when Pierce Brosnan says goodbye in 2001. Eon, the film company behind the films, said the Angels singer was a bright prospect who would be a serious candidate. Williams has even offered to take a year out of his singing career to take acting lessons. But as a Hollywood source said: "Robbie has undoubted charisma, but he would have to prove himself in a few minor roles before he could come close to claiming Brosnan's crown."

It looks as if Robbie will have to change his physical appearance if he is serious about the Bond job. The She's The One singer recently topped a magazine poll as the world's sexiest man but was considered too tubby by American music chiefs to star in his own promo video for Angels.

One US music critic said: "The director clearly felt Robbie's rather chubby shape wouldn't go down well with the American target audience - in fact, there is precious little of him in the video at all." The new video revolves around a sexy man who finds his perfect woman, but LA producers were looking for a George Clooney-type hunk and so hired a body double to stand in for Robbie.
